Review: Braids “Miniskirt”

“But in my position, I’m the slut, I’m the bitch, I’m the whore. The one you hate”

Braids fiercely tackle misogyny in “Miniskirt”, the twin headed lead single from their album “Deep in the Iris”. Protesting the discrepancy between gender perception and treatment while recounting her own trauma, front woman Raphaelle Standell-Preston plays caged, defiant and liberated all at once. Intersecting her performance are shot of flowers being mass-produced and severed from their roots for eventual sale, possibly a metaphor for her experience.
